For long-term planning, note that AT&T promises to end 2G by the end of 2016, so only T-Mo will remain as a GSM network in the US. They've pledged to keep 2G (at least for data) going till 2020 for the "cellnet of things" as I'm calling it. Burglar alarms, lowjack, bathroom scales, etc. depend on it . . .
