Yeah, I had been thinking about the Pelican 1040 as well (or the 1060, if I wanted more room). I've been thinking about a 1040 with thick foam inserts, putting it in a Tom Bihn (www.tombihn.com) snake charmer, and attaching one of Tom's shoulder straps to the nylon loops on the end of the snake charmer (so it'd be like a really low profile messenger bag). Then I just have to figure out which of the Pelican or Otterbox cases is right for holding my iGo keyboard, and whether or not to buy a box for holding cables and chargers. I just with the snake charmer had an option for solid (non-mesh) sides, and an actual handle instead of the little loop on top. And one of the two pockets had smaller pockets for holding pens, cell phone, and maybe my wallet ... plus a key clip.
