Pretty much. Freezing in the winter, boiling in the summer. Most English houses were never built with energy efficiency in mind. It was only in the last 10 years or so when energy efficiency has become a concern. Especially houses built in the 1970's like mine are absolutely terrible in this respect. The tragedy is that it is built in such a way that there is very little I can do about it. I have replaced windows with single sheet of glass in them for double glazed and put some insulation in the loft. It has made a noticeable difference but it still leaks heat like a sieve through the walls, in places where adding some extra insulation would require some structural changes.
