Build via AOSP. I get the hindrance is that you still "need" Google, but I get it.

However, no other mobile OS that's free has approached the level of completeness as AOSP. It's still a bunch of "wait, it'll get there" while waiting on folks to get the essential things prepared like... usability.

Oh well. Sad state of affairs no matter how you cut it.
