Is that so many of the front runner mega corps. haven't abandoned the smartphone yet and moved on to something else.
That is their usual method of operation.
1- create / steal / mimic ...
2- contain and control ..
3- hold onto market share ..
4- abandon when the tech has diffused to competitors to the point that high profit yields are failing.
I think many companies are diversifying have have been diversified for
quite a while.

Apple sells many electronics (computers, music players, tv's, their whole ecosystem thingy that they totally control, and in the next few years the Apple car plus what ever else.

Samsung sells washer/dryers, kitchen appliances, and even manufactures ships!
