This is almost definitely caused by poor GPS reception. The internal GPS receiver on the N810, in my experience, is not very sensitive. In my area of the world, even standing outside, the GPS fix is not very accurate. The internal GPS is almost useless to me.

Yes. Google implements their "hybrid" maps as two separate sets of PNGs, the road PNGs drawn on top of the satellite PNGs. Maemo Mapper does not (yet) have support for drawing two map repositories at once. Yahoo's hybrid maps do the same. Virtual Earth's hybrid maps use a single PNG for hybrid maps.

I have to this point shied away from on-screen buttons in favor of a cleaner interface, but I'm willing to entertain the idea of an optional toolbar. If I can dock it to the side instead of the bottom, and if I can find some reasonably usable, free icons, I'll try to add one in a future release.

Stylus tap-and-drag is already mapped to the pan operation. I guess I could either change that behavior to draw-extent-and-zoom-pan, or make it optional. It won't be high on my priority list, though....
