That's really odd. I just put my n800 51-3 into redpill and installed http://rtcomm.garage.maemo.org/deb/r..._0.5_armel.deb and it installed from the extra, rtcomm installer.

I think you could experiment with apt-get but because a lot of reboot looops happen , so best trying official way.
