I may have misunderstood what you mean, but you need to do more than a factory reset to go back to Marshmallow: you need to download and flash a Marshmallow image. See elsewhere in this thread for more details, but in outline the best source of suitable images seems to be to use Xperifirm and download either the shopfront or journalist/press images. You can then back up the DRM keys.
