At the time Palm was declining as a force...
Access then purchased and in essence became Palm..
with sole proprietary rights to the os..
During Access's ownership they produced and had every right to release this product and do whatever they wanted with the OS’s code.to make and distribute.
As long as they owned the rights...

Naturally it wasn't the right to distribute for all eternity.
there is a reason for the license
and there is a reason for the license expiration.
and that is copyright.
unauthorized distribution of copyright material can naturally be the subject of enforcement.

(Even more so...
Access did a version that has been the source of much of their later angst....
1.0.6b for 2008 which had a "no license expiry" built in .

Now ...
Access is long gone...
now ...who has the rights to make, alter, authorize, distribute?
Whoever has it now ...
has the right to employ copyright trolls to come after you or me or anyone else for unauthorized distribution...

Not all things at tmo are open and free...
Some very few ....are owned by others..

However new or old the goods are...
I suggest being wary...
about openly ....
on a public forum...
sharing and distributing ...
stating that you have, can and will distribute...
proprietary goods of someone or some other entity's .
