well...
DT thinks that "selective fallen deadwood" will stop the forest fires (which he somehow has blamed Canada for..)...and will help the forest industry in the U.S.

Fact of the matter is...
"selective" anything in forests is exponentially expensive to get out of a forest without damaging the existing forest...

Other issue is...
the US has gotten an excellent trading partner in us...
and we complain very little..
example is the end of the 2nd world war...
there were a lot of men and equipment....sitting..
So america and canada struck a deal...
both ...the majority of equipment the USA's ..
would build roads, dams, etc...deep up into the remote areas of Canada to enable access to the then idea of NORAD defense outposts...
it was a good arrangement...
with it came an arrangement for water and lumber and hydro electricity and all kinds of other resources traded to the US at a ridiculously low cost ...
those deals struck with Canada were for a certain number of years..
those years are almost up..
and that means that the costs that were in pennies per gigawatt ...and pennies in tonnage for lumber ...etc....
are expiring...
already...for the past few decades ...our neighbor has been reneging on the hydro bills owed...
let alone the other bills...
Nafta being tossed out...
well that is fine...
the canadian government will be going to the world courts for arbitration on bills owing...
and there is polite talk of the fact that pharma corps in the US ...may have their canadian patent rights annulled....which will hurt badly their profit margins..
and there are other areas of interest...that will as DT puts it "ruin" about 36 of the states that do a great deal of trade with Canada...
that the cancellation of nafta will cripple...
the automotive tariff threat DT has voiced to Canada ..will hurt the US as much as Canada ...since the entirety of the auto sector is so deeply integrated across borders....
and lastly...
if anything could have been more incentive...
since the tariffs began...
considering lumber...
I have seen more freighters loaded from the bottoms of their holds to high up out of them with logs...heading for China...
and before the nafta nightmare we were considering scraping a pipeline to our west coast...
But since all this...
Now it is great incentive...
Why send our oil south ...for our best friend and neighbor NOT to pay his bill on it ...
and then send it back to us as a refined product and charge us top dollar... on top of it?
Naw....
we figure ...better to refine it here for ourselves or ship it to our coast ...
ship it to China...
they actually PAY for what they want...
they pay their bills...
So I must say...this tariff dalliance has smarted in some ways...
but it isn't the ruination of us..
It has encouraged many to shop canadian ...
and look at other partners for our goods...
It is a pity though that DT seems to think a trillion dollar a year in trade nafta deal is somehow terrible for the US.
He seems to be making global upheavals in the markets and economies of the world since his term started....
