Sail Fish?

Re: hydrothermal vents. I am well aware of that hypothesis. I am not dismissing it off-hand but I remain to be convinced. I agree the conditions were optimal but were they 'optimal for long enough? Millions of years? They may look stable on a human time scale but I would imagine hydrothermal vents do not last that long, they come and go as the tectonic plates move.
