"The Pause Problem" happens on all my long movies. I've encoded them all using N800 Video Convert ver. 0.8.4.0. Settings:

Resolution: 400 x 240
Autocrop: Fit Width
Frame Rate: 24
Aspect: 15/9
Bitrate: 512
Audio bitrate: 96
No resample
2-pass encoding

When I look at the File Information in mplayer, it says:

Video Codec: DX50
Video Bitrate: 400 kbps (even though I thought I encoded at 512)
Res: 400 x 240
Audio Codec: mad
Audio bitrate: 32 kpbs (even tho I thought N800 VC said 96 when I encoded)
Audio Samples: 48000 Hz, 2 ch.

I would try Pause on mplayer, but as far as I can see, it doesn't offer the option. But as I've said, Pause is actually Stutter Forward on Canola, at least when far along in a movie. You have to play the movie for a while at regular speed before you get the stutter problem (which probably makes it tedious to test!). But once you get it on a movie, it keeps happening whenever you Pause. Apart from that, Canola works great as a video player. (So for that matter does mplayer, except for lack of controls and a not-nearly-so-nice UI.)

As for the Stop function, Pause-Rewind is a good-enough replacement. (Though I fail to see what's wrong with including Stop.) (It reminds me of Apple refusing to really use right-clicking or refusing to implement an expand-to-full-screen button for its windows.) However, there's a minor issue with Pause-Rewind currently. When you hit Rewind, it doesn't go back to the beginning until you hit Play, which is counter-intuitive. Then, if you hit Pause and then Rewind and then close the movie, when you open it again, it starts in the middle where you had paused, whereas that's precisely the circumstance for which I would like Stop. Since once it starts up again I can immediately hit Pause then Rewind, this is really trivial.

All this bug feedback inherently focuses on the problems (which are tiny). So let me just say: Great program, I really like it! Thanks!
