A few days ago I customized a couple of my icons (contacts/browser on desktop) using these instructions:

Unfortunately I couldn't seem to get the icons to change even though they are the correct size/format etc and even after rebooting.

Fast forward to this morning: I dropped my N800 on the driveway (slipped on ice doh!), causing the battery to drop out. Lo and behold, when I put the battery back in and booted the device the icons had changed to my custom design.

Weird thing is, now I made a further customization to the icons but again cannot get them to change - even after pulling the battery for a while.

Anyone have any advice how to get the icons to display? Are there any xterm commands that might achieve this refresh?
