Since this is a video related question, and I did not know where to post this, I thought to give it a shot in the Canola forums since people are savvy enough for video.
I am trying to encode some movies so that they play via the mplayer w/o stutter.
I have tried the Media Converter 1.43, with no help. And recently I even tried Media Converter 2.03 which I believe is based on 1.43 but with x264 support. I have noticed, great stutter on portions of the movie where the bitrate is higher than usual.
Again I used profiles in both encoder that corresponds to a higher than avg quality, based on those application settings. I remember when I used to encode Planet Earth to watch on the Xbox 360 back before they introduce the avi/xvid codecs, I used to have similar problems, because I had to choose the correct VC1/WMV settings/profile so that the 360 could play it nicely, and it was mainly related to the bitrate on high traffic scenes where there are lot of movements going on.
Bottom line, I am running out of ideas for the tools to use based on the N800, and going to use my other tools (Total Video Converter, Super & PocketDivxEncoder), if anyone has done such tests and can give their 2c on this, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Houman
Edit: Looks like I have been a bit too optimistic about n800 ability to play high bitrate movies even with mplayer and this article helps...
