My 770 wasn't like that for the first 6 months of owning the tablet, it just happened within the past week or two.
That actually looks like a pressure spot, light distribution spots are usually just on one edge and always there. I don't know how pressure would increase on the screen, carrying it in your pocket without the hard cover would probably add pressure, but only while its in your pocket.
