I think this is a very good point you bring out Sachin.

I am not sure of Apple iPhone - since it does have a unix OS on it, but again maybe it does not support multi-tasking, by design.

If that is indeed the case that is very reminiscent of how PALM succeded and failed too for the same reason. Intially PALM OS's simplicity was a winning factor - all apps loaded in memory - startup times are fast and neat and plenty of apps.

Gradually as needs become more complex and phones evolved to be able to multitask, PALM started sliding and its simple OS structure became its achilees heel. They just couldn't overhaul the whole OS to make it compete with more modern multi-tasking OS's like MS Windows Mobile etc orembedded linux based ones.

Eventually we all know where PALM lies now - forgotten nearly in the smartphone, and PDA markets.

I find it hard though to believe inspite of the unix based OS on Apple prods, that it also does not support multitasking. Is that really true again ?
