If I'm not mistaken, that's going to be the case with the official SDK. Of course the BSD core underneath supports multitasking (if you install the BSD subsystem, you can use top or ps in terminal to see running process). But currently there are (unofficial) 3rd party apps that run in the background (Apollo IM client, Ants, etc).
