I wish that the world worked that way but Linux doesn't imply anything to most people. It needs to do what they want, easily and efficiently. Someone that doesn't know the difference between a hard drive and a computer can work with an iPhone or a Zune for example. Yes, they are decidedly less complex than what an N810 is trying to deliver, and Nokia has one hell of a challenge but they need more resources behind this so they don't get left behind when Moblin or OS X devices start steamrolling.
