My old Palm T3 (400MHz XScale) can sample 44kHz, but I don't know if that's done through any additional hardware - I'm not aware of any DSP there, but there could be one, of course. I should think the N800 has enough guts to handle at least what the T3 can do, but if it needs to go through the DSP then we're thin on documentation.
