Since your asking the golden question, why don't you create your own high power wifi network. All its takes is to get your ham radio license, and you can do homebrew wifi. I remember for this one ham radio event we had a wifi connection on a hill from our ham shack 4 miles away. You will realize you need to have a hand with electronics and soldering, also you will need to build a high power wifi interface for the internet tablet, connected with either bluetooth, wifi, or usb (using an ethernet like interface) so if you want somewhat reasonable internet close to home everywhere, thats a good idea. Keep also in mind security: you'll want to encrypt your traffic since it would be so widely accessable, it just takes a person like me to get free internet from that. Also, make sure you use a SSHtunnel or some other form of tunnel so if they do penetrate your access point's encryption, they won't be able to cause any more trouble.
