I am in the process of purchasing a N810, and the general community here was a major factor in making my decision. It is incredible, but I am really turned off by some of what I have seen on this forum.

As a newcomer, the snarky and immature tone of a handful of people here significantly brings down the appeal of the community. I am technically savvy, but would hate to be otherwise with the reception some people get.

If it's an effort to encourage people to act in a certain way, then it is misguided. Linking to the information they're looking for, and requesting they search in the future is most likely to help encourage the behavior you want (and in theory also help improve external access to the site through search engine results).

Doing so is a hassle, but remaining silent is also an alternative---and is generally the next best thing. It avoids the frustration of responding altogether. Someone else might come along and be willing steer the newcomer in the right direction. Give them a chance.

I've managed and have been involved with many communities---and have also been guilty of the same behavior on several occasions. I recognize the damage it does and try my best to avoid it. I completely understand the frustration that newcomer naivety/noise brings when trying to create a useful resource.

I think you have a great thing here overall, and look forward to participating. Everyone who contributes has created a great resource---including the snarky/immature members, minus their unproductive comments. I have found an incredible amount of value here.

A little kindness goes along way toward retaining people who are likely to become productive members in the future.
