That said, it has been my experience in numerous other examples of general products from retailers, that warranties and guarantees are often nice in advertising but rarely demonstrated sincerely in real situations.

So prior to Nokia, I usually wouldn't even bother, as there is often equal secondary expense(return shipping) or negative attitude and willful obstruction by various stores and suppliers.

I get your point though, and maybe it is admitting defeat or perhaps more like 'conservation of energy'.
