My god, why on earth would you want 1 GB of swap space!?

I don't use swap at all, and I have very few problems, usually when I have the javascript-enabled gmail open in a browser (that's why I usually use the javascript-disabled version - much lighter!).

64 MB of swap should be enough for everybody.
