That doesn't sound like a hardware fault, and based on your description there's likely no connection between the error and the shipment... so fedEx can breathe easier.

It might have been better to have sought help here for the appman issue before returning the device. I'll bet that another reflash and then proceeding CAREFULLY from that point might well have been the better course. Hopefully your replacement device will be okay.
