Perhaps there needs to be timing adjustments but it works on my Asterisk PBX. I have to wait for the call to answer before being able to pull up the DTMF dialing pad but I'm able to for example enter my mailbox and password for voice mail and conference calls.

In all seriousness, though, most consumers are newbies and they want to stay that way. The one extra step may well be worth their while, but unless they've had 7 friends tell them it is worth their while and they just *have* to do it, they won't.
Well I can't help people that refuse to even try. But you're right, if it takes one extra initial step or having to learn something one time they won't do it. Funny that my young children and a friend that never used a computer before had no problem with the NIT. They just did what was needed and picked it up quickly. It must be the kool aid....
