Yeah, I've actually fallen asleep and have woken up wondering the same: day or night? But still - if that hasn't happened in 35 years for you, and rarely for me, it isn't such a big deal for some of us. Definitely see where you guys are coming from, though. But the option to turn on/off AM/PM indication would be nice, if not asking too much of Fiferboy. I've found that if you make the font large enough you can actually make the am/pm indicator disappear.
