Just found this thread after receiving all the cables that I needed to hook up my Canon A610 to my n810. Sadly I didn't realise the whole PTP issue beforehand, and would love to get it connected - so I'm happy to help where I can.

I installed the deb that was linked to, and despite installing ok gphoto2 can't be found when run in terminal. Any ideas? Thanks!
