Do you mean that you have a set of maps that you want to view, like with an image viewer? Or do you want to use Maemo Mapper with a map-providing web service (like Google Maps)?

If you don't have a GPS device, you don't have to fill in a GPS MAC address. It then acts like a normal map browser, although your maps do have to be set up in a particular directory structure. Alternatively, you can just use Maemo Mapper to download the maps that you need.

To get started, just provide a Map URL Format (like the ones mentioned in this post) in the Settings dialog (in the "Maps" tab). You should also choose a Map Cache directory location, e.g. on an MMC card (or keep with the default).

Now save your settings and turn on "Auto-Download" in the "Maps" menu. Maps should start downloading as needed. You can tap on any point on the map to center the view on that point, and use the hardware zoom buttons to zoom in and out.

In "Auto-Download" mode, maps are only downloaded as necessary. If you want to download maps for a particular area, use the "Download Area..." menu item in the "Maps" menu.

Yes, there definitely should be official documentation for all of this, and one day, maybe when I'm not working 70 hours a week at my job, I'll have time to do that (or someone could volunteer ).
