Nokia does see the need to keep clear separation between what is delivered and supported by Nokia from all the rest. This is the reason why b.m.o is now the way it is.

However, there must be ways to keep Nokia brand and liabilities safe while offering a more integrated environment and tools to third parties. The maemo-extras exercise might throw some light.
