At this point the reason that there's no full sized USB to MicroUSB is that microUSB is EXTREMELY difficult to locate, let alone use in custom fabrication work. Mini USB has been around for quite a while now, while MicroUSB is really only, what, a few months old in terms of actual production, and close to a year or so in terms of "general announcements"; as time goes on it should become easier to locate such a cable/adapter, but in the meantime we have to improvise.
Benson, thanks for the info I did spot that one the other day; I've got to do a bit more looking into it to see if the guy is open to volume discounting to make the costs to everyone here a bit closer to par.
As far as a power injector goes, I don't think it's really worth while to do because of the software requirements and potential damage you can do to your tablet if you don't do things properly (i.e. disable current limit in software and then forget to plug in your external power and overdraw the tablet's USB power source). I hope that the tablets have internal overload shutdowns, but I've blown up USB regulator chips on motherboards before doing that (and you'd have thought THEY would have overload protection) and had to live without powered USB ports for a while which is definately NOT fun! However what I am tinkering with is the possibility of moding up a "1 port" powered USB hub, essentially creating a power injector the "right way". I should be able to get it to be about the size of a postage stamp, but this is just based on general ideas and theories thus far so I'll keep everyone posted on how it works out...
Thanks for all the feedback so far, if there are any other cables/accessories etc you guys are looking for just post up and I'll do my best to track them down/build them/make them available! (btw don't know if anyone's interested but I've now got
Mic/Headphone Y cables
as well for N800/N810).
Thanks,
-Rob
