Unfortunately, they didn't help for an annoying reason: my mobile operator (Orange) messed with the OS and made it impossible to use internet connection sharing. I could reflash the ROM, but it isn't clear to me whether the phone will continue to work on that network.

I haven't tried the WiFiRouter approach yet, but I'll post if I have any success.
