You do not need Itunes to download Audible files; Audible will provide you with proprietary software called Audible Manager that will allow you to load book files from your desktop hard drive through the USB link. Audible will also keep track of books you have already purchased and let you load them directly to GVM Audible Player.
Having said that, you should be advised of the drawbacks. Since GVM cannot see your SD drives, your storage space will be limited to the 64 mb allowed to a single GVM application. Also, there is a known GVM bug that requires you to reinstall Audible Player after every hotsync in order to reassociate Player with the N8x0 speakers.
You might want to consider purchasing a converter program such as Goldwave that will change the .aa file to something Canola can read in the native NIT.
