I second that resolution!

Had same symptoms with the Speedtouch ADSL2+ router provided by Be here in the UK. Syncs ~9 MB/s DL / 1 Mb/s UL, but bit rate during remote connections was all over the place.

Then I heard how someone with a Slingbox using the same ISP as me resolved this by replacing their Speedtouch with a Netgear. Reverted to my Draytek Vigor 2800 VG and initial tests return a stable 900 - 1000 kbps.
