I don't know about that; I think we just need to wait till a hacker who knows WiMAX, or at least very knowledgable about networking in general, has enough cash to buy one of the Nokia beta-testers (and himself, if he's not Canadian) a round-trip ticket to Canada.
It's not clear to me that the N810W is not compatible (in some limited, definitely non-roaming way) with the existing Bell/Rogers network. It might be, it might not. With no N810Ws for Canucks to test with, nobody'll know...
As for that latency and VoIP, it's not
killer
bad, as long as the 1 second spikes are sufficiently rare; it looks about like a transatlantic connection.
