My ADSL modem is an Alcatel Speed Touch Home, my wireless router is a Linksys model WRT54G. Both are virgins as far as tampering with the firmware is concerned. uPnP is on on the router; I left the firewall as it was, as it seems to keep the baddies out fine; DHCP is on as well.

You say that uPnP isn't needed for Google Talk, but is it possible that it, being on, could hurt?

I will probably try Gizmo if I can't get Google Talk to -- err -- talk on my 770, but the real problem is my contact on the other side: it was already taxing his computer skills (or rather: the lack thereof) for him to get Google Talk working. I doubt he'll be able to repeat this fluke success. Can I use Gizmo to talk to Google Talk contacts?
