The patch was for gpsd and was only useful for the one month. The time of day & date that gpsd returns is not overly important (unless you're trying to set a clock by it).

I'd uninstall the patched version as it interfered, iirc, with adding other software (dep problems).

and Maemo Mapper can't even talk to the GPS at all (the GPS icon will flash on and off sometimes, and Mapper says that it can't find the GPS).
I saw this too, but wasn't sure if it was down to the patched gpsd. Perhaps it is. In the end I'd have to run the Map application (for which the gps would turn on), then run maemo-mapper to use the gps once it was up and running.

I think removing the patch is the best bet, this problem won't affect you for another 4 years (leap year bug), and by then I trust we'll have an officially patched version
