With Boost I didn't know that. They must just leave it up and running like on the Nextel side. Or, Opera mini is one of the few JAVA apps that run on iDEN that will automatically select a working connection protocol. (HTTP vs. Sockets)

Nextel leaves this connection up also, but it monitors it and will charge its customers who do not have a data plan, a per MB fee on their monthly bills.

Boost may not have this ability...
They may in the future though, so who knows?

I posted a working JAVA version of Google Maps somewher on HoFo too. Give that a try with Boost.
