I posted the following on this forum once before.

After installing GAIM, you need to install the specific protocol that will allow you to use GAIM with Yahoo or MSN or ICQ etc. To use MSN IM you will need ' maemo-gaim-protocol-msn '. Each kind of IM has and needs its own protocol to work. You need to download and install these for GAIM to work.

I use Yahoo IM, so I downloaded and installed :

" maemo-gaim-protocol-yahoo".
" libgpg-error0 " ,
" maemo-gaim-data ",
" libgcrypt11 ",
