Putting the unit in ad-hoc is easy. Just goto the Control Panel, connectivity settings and edit one of the connects you've created or create a new one, at some point you'll come across a screen that says "Connection Setup: WLAN", "Network Mode:" and change it to ad-hoc.

DHCP server is anothe thing.
