Using my phone as a modem is out of the ToS of my provider, it works, it's free, but it's forbidden in the ToS.
A SIM card slot in the NIT would just bring me back into the legal way.

And it looks like I'm not the only one:

Sure, A sim card would be nice. You are right about the N78: I just wanted to emphasize the differences between a phone and a NIT.

I use my NIT at home, in the office, in general in places where WiFi is available (BOINGO is great). I can connect to the internet via my phone (excellent fast connection from KPN) but hardly use it.

Using the NIT means sitting, reading, writing, surfing, listening etc. When I do that WiFi is somehwere around. So I do not really need a cellular network or WIMAX. (....Most of the time I do not browse in the wilderness. .)

But, of course, cellular networks (or WIMAX ) have much more coverage outside the urbanised world. Therefore I do understand the requirement to use these networks.

I guess the NITs are optimized for WiFI usage. I know there are phones with WiFI, but I haven't seen phones connecting so easily to WIFI as a NIT!

What I do not want is another Iphone: combined functionality = more complexity = more compromises ! That's why there are so many complaints about the Iphone. At some moment in the future there will be a Smart Iphone with GPS, WifI, a good browser etc.

I understand the SMART company (tin cars ...) is now talking with APPLE to create a flying SMART automobile () with GPS, interactive windows with built-in browser(s) and live music.
Until then: I'll go for 1 NIT, 1 mobile phone and 1 TomTom.

I understand Nokia will launch it's Tube (5800 ?) this year. I expect much more quality, and a good browser. Let's wait and see.
Abel .
