It's still more compact than the "normal" option of a netbook with 3G/USB, or even internal 3G.
Even if unwieldy on foot, it becomes much handier mounted to a vehicle, for example.
It's a first iteration; I'm working towards a similar concept (my 2.75G modem just shipped), but drawing from my own OTG experiences and what others have posted online, I should be able to make a tidier package of it. The handful of people who've done this kind of stuff already could (and will) almost certainly produce similar results, when they stop to redo it.
