You are right that probably using sqlite would be more memory efficient than xbel approach. Also, I'm thinking on refactoring the code so we could replace the bookmarks backend without much effort if we at some point in the future want an xbel backend. This would also make easy to make providers for del.icio.us and so. I'm going to send you my email so we can contact each other easily.
