Thanks for hanging with me. I have changed my username and password about 5 times, and all settings are exactly what your post #2 described. I still get "authentication to pop.gmail.com failed..." message.

Now if could go back to my post #9, it said I did not complete step 3 on my PC. Do you think this could be a problem? Again, I do not want "forwarded email", and that's why I did not complete step 3 on my PC.
