A GPS should work equally well in China as elsewhere.. the GPS signals don't know which country you're in!

(The only issue could be south/northern hemisphere. I had a problem with one receiver, it never ever locked while in the southern hemisphere. Didn't have any problems with another GPS. Probably a firmware bug in the other one. No problems in China with either of them.)
