I'm surprised that this hasn't been discussed before! Or if it had, it didn't come up when I did a search, so here goes:

This was news to me, but ARM is gearing up to release a new family of GPUs to the world of mobile electronics. The processor line is called Mali and come in a range of flavours: The Mali 55, the Mali 200, and the Mali 400. As is ARM tradition, the chips will be low power, high performance compliments to the ARM SoC line. In addition to graphics processing, these chips will accelerate Java VM with dedicated silicon and induce smiles.

Here is a flyer on the GPU:

* They even have a shot of the N810 in the flyer!!!!!!!!!!!

Here are some tantalizing tech/game demos:

These chips look to rival NVIDIA's Tegra quite nicely, while shedding the closed powerVR units. Open drivers perhaps?

This move makes sense with ARM looking to quickly move into the world of netbooks, offering the advantage of all-day battery life with amazing performance.

What is even more exciting is the world of netpads, namely the Internet Tablet. With that, I have a few questions for you all:

What do you think will come of this?

What do you hope will come of this?

Which Mali (if any) would you like to see most in the ITs? Why?

Just thought I'd brighten your day!

*EDIT: Removed N900 references from post...

YARR!
