You're right. There seems to be a conflict between the internal volume control and the builtin osso-media-server (which MediaBox uses to play mp3 format). I think this problem is fixed in the SVN version but please let me know if not. MediaBox is not the only player suffering from this, btw. It's a bug in the hildon desktop that we have to work around.
