I think the key to a good PIM suite is streamlining it; not taking features out, but showing you only what you need, and making it have a flow Take the wifi applet - if you click connect, you aren't confronted with a bunch of fields, options for encryption type, etc. - you simply get the necessary prompts for any
applicable
information, in a logical order. When I'm quickly entering an appointment in my calendar, most of the time, I just need to enter a description, the time, and the place... and I need to do it fast. If I'm going to take the time to fill out a bunch of other information, I likely have the time to make another button click or two anyways - it's better if I don't have to go through the potentially extraneous options to get to the basic/common ones. I'm not necessarily advocating a full-out wizard-style approach (I could see that getting annoying), but I think that
asking
the user for the information that is needed (as opposed to dumping them in a Big Box O' Textfields), would be the way to go.
