Well, I've honestly had more grief from displays that won't go dim enough (in a dark room) than won't go bright enough, and the N800 goes as low as any of my other devices.
I'm seeing N800 as slightly brighter than HP tx2000, but not much.
For my Eee 701, it depends. The brightest the BIOS wants to go (with
Fn
+ F3/F4) is a bit dimmer than the N800, but the Eee's much brighter if I use the secret incantation:

The N800 is by far the best of the screens for color and viewing angle, though.
