I am interested in this thread because it claims there is a Skype killer out there. After reading though the posts I have to agree that another 2 cent per minute SIP service provider is just that.... not a Skype killer.

Skype's $2.95 per month unlimited deal is good for those in the US and Canada who talk on the phone a lot. It can work out to way below a penny a minute for them.

Several SIP providers now offer 1 cent calling to PSTN in the USA. Look into Future-Nine.com and Webacall. Many SIP providers simply email your voicemail to you as .wav files, but Future-nine has a very robust voicemail system in place. I am not affiliated with any of these operations. I am just a user.
I agree on the Skype-killer, I'd say there isn't one out there, at least not yet.

As for the cellphone VS NIT, perhaps its that I don't have reliable high-speed Internet wherever I go (maybe XOHM/Clear/WiMax will change that for me, and I dont want a new phone to use T-Mo's ******ed 1.7 GHz 3G), like when I am driving for example, and I tend to drive 50 miles each way to work, plus wherever else I may go. So do I need to talk when in the car? No, but its very helpful, especially when you're going to meet someone, or when covering large distances. And I'm not a chatty cathy. Plus, I have Internet on the phone as well (EDGE). But know knows, maybe its me who is behind the times.

How do you have Internet access everywhere you go, such that the NIT is more valuable/useful than your mobile phone?
