I have had the same problem. I am unable to successfully start the browserd daemon either. I subsequently have been getting "Segmentation faults" from nano whenever I try to search (CTRL+W).
Here is the error I get after stopping browerd:

Also, this happened after installing Fennec from Mozilla's website. Uninstalling Fennec did not fix the original Maemo browser.
